OZAMIZ CITY – The relic of the cross where Jesus Christ died arrived in Ozamiz City today ( October 26,2015) as part of the pilgrimage for the devotees in Mindanao.
This is in line with the preparation of the Roman Catholic Church of the Philippines for the hosting of the International Eucharistic Congress on January 2016 in Cebu City.
In an interview with Bro. Severino Evadora 111, the Seminarian from the Archdiocese of Cebu who brought the said relic in the Cathedral explained, that this relic of the Cross is a symbol of faith chosen to be the symbol of the Philippines being the host country for the 2016 International Eucharistic Congress.
He further said, the Cross was chosen to be the Philippine Symbol because it has a great impact to everyone’s life since Jesus died on the cross to redeem the world.
In the past, when the International Eucharistic Congress was held in Dublin, they chose the bell as their country’s symbol for the celebration.
“ It ‘s the cross that serves as our symbol for the celebration because we all knew that Jesus Christ died on the cross and it strengthen our faith to do good and to spread the love of Jesus as the source of everything.” according to Evadora.
The Cross was placed in an altar inside the Cathedral of Immaculate Concepcion with a replica of the Magellan’s Church in Cebu City where the Magellan’s Cross was located as a symbol for the start of Christianity in the Philippines during the Spanish era.
From Ozamiz City Cathedral according to Evadora, the Cross will be brought to Dipolog City early tomorrow ( October 27,2015) so that the Dipolognons can also view the said relic .
